Hi!

My fiancee and I are looking at places to go on our honeymoon, and we're very interested in Costa Rica. The only problem in going to Costa Rica at that time is the weather! Well, actually... that's what I'm trying to figure out. Is the weather bad in July in Costa Rica? I know that it's the green season. I also heard that the Pacific Coast isn't as rainy as the Caribbean coast.

So, do you live in Costa Rica? Is it honeymoon weather in July? Have you been to Costa Rica at that time? Where would you want to stay if you traveled then?

I appreciate any advice!!

Thanks :)

I was in Costa Rica for study abroad in May and June of 2007, and we did take a 5 day vacation in Tamarindo (which is on the Pacific coast) near the end of June. It was the only 5 days where we didn't experience rain all of the time. It rained somewhat, but not every day like it did in the central valley, or in sheets like it did in the rural area of Guanacaste, or allllllllllllllll day long like it did in the cloud forest of Monteverde.

Costa Rica is gorgeous, but it is kind of a gamble when it comes to the weather at that time of year. You might get lucky, like we did, if you stick to the coast, but you might not.

I'm moving to Costa Rica in June, with the Peace Corps, but unfortunately, that won't be soon enough to give you a better answer to your question :P

Thanks for the advice! Actually, we're planning on going July '08, so I'd welcome any weather reports while you're there! Peace Corps is a huge committment and a great program, good for you! I'm sure that it'll be keeping you busy. Keep me updated, though: )

My wife and I spent a month in Costa Rica last summer (which included half of July). The rains were only "all day" rains in the Monteverde/Fortuna/Arenal area. While it did rain frequently it was mostly predictable and you certainly won't have major problems.

July on the Pacific, sunny in the morning, rains in the afternoon, clear in the evening, like clockwork.

So.... the other coast is a little less predictable?

honeymoon in JUly

LizBeth,
I am in the same predicament as you--I want to go on my honeymoon in July but am worried about the weather. We're considering going to CR in December to ensure a dry vacation. What did you decide to do?

Re: honeymoon in JUly

Hi There!

We decided to totally change plans and go to Alaska. We're going on a 14 day cruise. With Alaska, we get the nature aspect of things-- and a general idea of good weather (I know-- the polar opposite of Costa Rica!!)

We decided to make Costa Rica our first vacation after our honeymoon. I'm a teacher and get a February break, so our plans are to vacation a year from now.

Be careful about postponing your honeymoon! I've been told that a lot of the time, it's easy to just forget about it. Also, now that we have it booked (and payed for!) I know it will be such a relief! I'm looking forward to spending two weeks together after the wedding almost more than the wedding itself!

Good luck in whatever you decide to do! Feel free to email me edetlef at gmail dot com!
